Meal prepping is the preparation and packaging of meals in advance for the week.  Many people choose to meal prep on Sundays and have started a trend called “Meal Prep Sunday.”  Meal prep containers are food storage containers specifically designed to organize and store your prepped food throughout the week.

Save Time:

Professionals that are time-deprived due to work and activities causing them to grab the quickest and most convenient meals near them. They make use of meal prep containers because of their tight schedules. Meal prep containers are advantageous to busy people—there is need to prepare meals ahead of time as it helps to save time, money, and stress. Take teachers as an example—they have less than an hour for breakfast and lunch, and would benefit to having tailored made meals ahead of time due to their time constraint.

Save Money:

Meal prep containers can save you a significant amount of money and make organizing and transporting your favorite healthy foods easy and efficient. They ensure everything goes where it’s supposed to within your meal management system and can significantly reduce the total time that needs to be spent in the kitchen preparing meals.

Stay on Track:

Meal prep containers also eliminate the most common excuse people use for not following their diet; lack of time. Eating healthy food really doesn’t need to take much more time than eating your unhealthy food-- as long as you have a meal prep container system in place.

Different people use meal prep containers for a variety of different meals.  Some may prefer utilizing meal prep containers for breakfast so they can eat once they make it to the office, or after a morning gym session.  Others, due to their schedules, may prefer to prep for lunch or dinner.

Many public service professionals use meal prep containers because of the nature of their job.  Many police officers, EMTs, and firefighters are in their vehicles for long periods of time and it’s very easy to resort to the nearest McDonald’s when there is one on every street corner.  By using meal prep containers and meal prep bags, these professionals are not resorting to fast food to fulfill their lunchtime cravings—they’ve got a full meal prep bag in their passenger seat!

Perhaps the most common use for meal prep containers is for health and diet reasons.  Losing weight is 70% diet, 30% fitness.  If you are trying to lose, maintain, or gain weight, the best way to do so is to know exactly what is going into your body. By prepping your own meals, you know exactly how much salt, sugar, and carbohydrates are in each of your meal prep containers and can plan your daily meals accordingly to reach your maximum health potential.  A little planning can save a lot of headaches.

Health issues also push many people into using meal prep containers. They are perfect for people on specialty diets.  Those suffering diabetes can manage their insulin by eating the proper foods.  With meal prep containers, a diabetic patient will never have to worry about not having a snack or meal with them at any given moment.

You are able to control which ingredients you use and limit the amount of salt, preservatives, and other unhealthy components in your meals.  In the long term, this will also reduce healthcare costs. When it comes to our health, our diet is one of the primary influencing factors that we can control. When you choose to prepare your own meals at home, you are taking control.

You're what you eat

People make use of meal prep containers when they are short on time or don’t have the energy to prepare a lot of food on a day-to-day basis. Once you find your favorite recipes, you can prep them on Sundays and simply pull them out of your refrigerator and transfer them into your meal prep bag to make your mornings that much easier!

Users of meal prep containers try to avoid rushing around every day and running out of time for a healthy meal. The financial aspect is also a great reason to start using meal prep containers. On average, a prepped meal costs about $3, compared to an expected charge of $10-$20 of buying a healthy meal everyday.  Bulk purchases of ingredients make more financial sense when preparing multiples of the same meal. For example, if you are preparing six or seven meals involving chicken, then it makes sense to purchase it in large quantities. Doing so considerably reduces your cost per meal.

Meal prep containers keep your eating healthy while on the road or work. It is also great for travellers to prepare meal prep containers for a weekend of camping or hunting.  Eating when on the go can be difficult if you’re not properly equipped. When you’re trying to watch what you eat, whether you’re a fitness buff or someone just looking to stay healthy, being able to take food from home with you wherever you’re going is a real convenience. Meal prep containers can help you solve your eating issues by allowing you a place to pack and seal your favorite health foods to transport with you anywhere.

Meal prepping is the key to success when it comes to healthy eating or dieting.  It is easier to make the right decision when you already have a healthy meal on hand.  It is especially helpful with a hectic schedule.

As we mentioned above, meal prep can save you time during the week, however, you may need to invest a large block of time in advance (like on Meal Prep Sunday, for example) for cooking and clean up. The good news is that as you become more experienced with meal prep, the time you spend in the kitchen will reduce. A meal prep session where you prepare meals for 5 days may take 60 – 180 minutes.  An alternative to long meal prep sessions is to complete your meal prep over more than one day or another solution is to prepare meals for 2-3 days instead of preparing 5-days worth of meals in one session.

When looking to buy meal prep containers, look for ones that are: stackable, leak-proof, easy to clean in a dishwasher, store easily and efficiently in a refrigerator, freezer or cabinet, and are BPA-free so they can be heated up in a microwave.

General Benefits of Meal Prep Containers

Meal prep containers help to save time, money, and enable you to make healthier eating choices.  The food containers you place your meals in are just as important as the meals you prepare. Meal prep containers offer their own set of benefits--for example, they make it simple for you to remain organized when it comes to your meals, they keep your meals fresh, and they are much more eco-friendly than their throwaway counterparts.

Save the planet, meal prep instead

Other benefits meal prep containers offer include saving storage space in your refrigerator and reducing the amount of time you have to spend cleaning up after a meal. If you’re serious about meal prepping, you should also look into buying a meal prep bag so that your cold food stays cold and your warm food stays warm!

Among other benefits, using meal prep containers is the best way to lose weight, keep track of your diet, control your portions, and build muscle. Meal prep containers began as the choice of bodybuilders but quickly became a necessity for anyone embarking on a health journey.  They are often used for diet plans that require meal prep, and those of us with a busy schedule that want to lead a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

Meal Prep Containers  Are Being Identified As Useful in the Following Areas:

Whether you're looking to lose weight or trying to maintain a healthy eating culture (diet) in order to keep fit, meal prep containers can help you stay on top of your diet by helping you understand how to plan and start prepping. Meal prepping helps you to know the right food to invest in to achieve a loss in weight.

Meal Prep Containers are most useful when bought in large quantities.  Look for a brand that sells containers in packs of 10, 25, or 50 depending on how many meals you plan to prep during the week, because nothing is worse than having to wash out your containers after every meal so you have some for the next day!  Many people prep for breakfast, lunch, and two snacks while they are away at work (4 containers a day), and would do best to start with a 25 pack .  Meal prep containers have been proven to help a lot of folks get into shape, eat clean, eat healthy AND eat proportionally to avoid overeating!

On average, it takes the brain about 20-30 minutes to send the "Hey, I’m full, stop eating!" signal to the brain, so controlling the amount of food you eat is essential in keeping your belly flat low and keeping you in good health and good shape!  We all want that awesome summer-body-feeling all-year-round and meal prep containers are the best way to keep it!

Eating meal prepped food at work

Eating on the go can be extremely difficult if you’re not properly equipped. When you’re trying to watch what you eat, whether you’re a fitness buff or someone just looking to stay healthy, being able to take food from home with you wherever you go is a convenient and important. Meal prep containers and meal prep (or management) bags can help you solve your eating issues by allowing you a place to pack and seal your favorite health foods to transport with you anywhere. Meal prep containers are also great for storing leftovers!

The best type of containers you can buy are stackable, microwaveable and reusable and come in packs of 10, 25, and 50 at a very subsidized rate. Trying to find healthy food, especially if you are following a strict diet or have allergies, is not only difficult to come by--it is also time-consuming and expensive.  It is difficult to find a healthy meal at a fast-serve restaurant during your lunch break, and many people don’t have the time to sit down during their lunch break for a healthy meal at a restaurant.  On top of this, you’re probably spending at least $10-$20 per meal you’re eating out.  The average meal-prepped meal will cost you $3-$4, depending on what you pack and the size of your portions.

Meal Prep is the best way to stay healthy, lose weight, track your diet, control your portions, and build muscle. Anyone on a diet plan that requires meal prep, and those of us with a busy schedule who want to eat healthy and live a balanced lifestyle, needs meal prep containers in order to succeed.

Great Meal Prep Ideas for Health Improvement:

Grilled or Baked Chicken: Chicken is a perfect dish for meal prep. It is high in protein and lean, keeps your bones healthy, and it’s inexpensive.  Chicken stores in meal prep containers very easily and can also be cooked and seasoned in so many different ways!

Salmon: Salmon is great for meal prep due to its many health benefits such as protein, Omega 3 fatty acids, amino acids and a variety of vitamins. It can also last up to 4 days after being cooked.

Ground Turkey: Ground turkey is a great option for meal prep entrees because it is lean, high in protein, and costs only about $3 per pound. You can liven it up by adding spices, veggies, peppers, onions and more.

Lean Flank Steak: Flank steak is considered one of the leanest pieces of beef. It is high in protein and very tasty! However, it is not recommended for every week due to the cost and the fact that it is still red meat.

Cod Fish: Loaded with protein, vitamins and only containing 6% DV fat, Cod is perfect for meal prep. Some say it doesn't have much taste to it, but if you season it with fresh herbs, you can enhance the taste. Also, The Rock swears by it!

Meal Prep (or Management) Bags!

All isobags for meal prep

The best meal prep (or Management) bags are durable, made with quality materials, and keep food cold for long periods of time.  Our favorite is the Isobag by Isolator Fitness.  They are the only meal prep (or Management) bag hand-made in the USA and are made with such high quality, that last year, less than 1% of Isobags sold last year were returned due to a factory defect!  They are also smaller, lighter and hold more meals than their competitors. [Comparison Graphic between us, 6 pack and FitMark]

Every Isobag comes with double the amount of meal prep containers each bag is designed to hold (the 3 meal comes with 6 and the 6 meal comes with 12) and Isobricks that keep food cold for up to 12 hours.  Isolator Fitness is the only company that uses these unique Isobricks instead of regular gel packs that don’t keep food cold for very long and are known to pop, leak, and deform.

First step in meal prepping is making sure you have all of your ingredients.  Decide on your meals for the week and make a comprehensive shopping list that includes plenty of everything.

The second step is to divide your meals into portion sizes inside your meal prep containers. Meal prep containers can be bought in a variety of sizes depending on your eating habits.  Isolator Fitness has four different sizes: (12 oz. , 16 oz., 28 oz., 38 oz.) --16 oz. and 28 oz. being our favorites. The larger containers are often used for salads and large meals, while the 12 oz. and 16 oz. are great for meats and breakfast foods, like eggs and yogurt.

If you are not sure what a portion size looks like, remember this:

Having your meals prepared ahead and stored in your refrigerator until they are ready to be moved to your meal prep (or Management) bag will allow you to triple your chances of achieving your fitness goals. If you are not at all hungry three hours after your last meal, you may have consumed too many calories-- try making your portion sizes a little smaller. If you are starving before lunch time, you probably didn’t have a nutritionally balanced breakfast.

Finally, always have a large, reusable bottle of water with you.  A gallon jug of water is recommended a day if you are being physically active.  If you like your water nice and cold, check out The Jug by Isolator Fitness.  They’ve created an amazing insulated cooler system that keeps a gallon jug of water cold for an entire day!

Blood is 83% water

Muscles are 75% water

The brain is 74% water

Bone is 22% water

Everyday you have to replenish your water source.  If you aren’t sure if you’re drinking enough, try the pee test:  if it’s the color of lemonade, you’re hydrated, if it’s the color of apple juice or darker, you need to drink way more!  On a parting note, remember this:  if you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated!
